Day 7 to Todi... This was a good ride, 44 miles for the main loop & 50 for the extra loop. We stopped in Montefalco for lunch. It seemed like every lunch stop and every hotel stop was up a giant hill to the top of the town. Mostly on cobblestones trying to navigate through people & cars. (This day I finally figured out that if you whistle really loud as you are riding, usually people will get out of your way.) The climb up to our lunch stop on this day was a 13% grade. At the end of the day there was what they called "The Todi Challenge". This was a 1.2 km climb at grades ranging from 18 - 22%. The guides tried to steer the riders away from even attempting it because if the crappy road and all the afternoon traffic. But of course there were 3 takers and Patrick was one of them. The two other riders were Julie, who is 50 and is a college professor from So. Cal. And Charlie, who is probably in his late 50's and from New York. When they saw us waiting at the top, they all thought they had further to go because one of the guides had said it was a 2 km climb. Needless to say they were all happy to have conquered the giant hill! The hotel that night had the most amazing views of all the hotels. (and it had a regular sized shower!) The guides had an Itailan speaking lesson for us, then we had dinner on our own in Todi, which was really nice. Buona notte!
