Hi All,
The photo is actually Dublin Castle, it was interesting.
The ceiling is quite amazing but does not reproduce as`well as hoped in a photo.
We are currently in Roscommon about 80km from Galway where we will head after breakfast.
Yes, Val H, we loved Trinity College and the Book of Kells was amazing. We had a great tour guide, a third year law student who has great knowledge.
Have loved Ireland and Belfast was a real surprise, a modern and vibrant city considering its dark past. Took a cab tour into the old IRA hot spots and once again learnt a lot from the guide. It was very interesting.
Took the coastal route which is a lovely drive, to Londonderry on Wed and saw the Giant Causeway and Carrickfergus Castle(1148 AD) on the way.
On our way here yesterday, stopped off at Omagh for lunch where they actually know what constitutes salad, not the usual lettuce leaf.
David reckons if the English could find a way, they would deep fry lettuce!
Then saw the Famine Museum at Strokestown(Potato famine)and strolled around the walled gardens of the old house. The sort of place that it is good for your soul.
It was about 17 to 20 deg yesterday and locals reckon it is a heatwave. Felt like that after all the cold weather.
We are aiming to make it to Kilarney tonight-the distances are not long but the roads are narrow most of the time and you cannot overtake the tractors and trucks that love to pull out in front of you. That's Ireland.
Then want to see the Blarney stone so will stay at Cork.
What do you call an Irish caveman?-------------Blarney Rubble of course.
The food and weather are better than England and the people even friendlier. I so love the accent.
We are due back in Dublin on Monday to fly to Heathrow(all down to the ash clouds).
Hope you are all well, best wishes from Barbara.
