Hi All,
Have been in London since last Monday night and really enjoying it, it is an exciting city. The weather has been great too, warm and sunny-high 20's.
Caught the train to Windsor Castle yesterday and it was the first bad weather, cold and wet. The State Rooms are magnificent, goose bump stuff to know you are standing in a place that is 1000 years old. Know a little of the history of the place from the 1600's and can't believe I was looking at rooms where Charles 11 once held court.
There are too many tourists in this place, it swarms every day, makes it hard to enjoy things properly.
There is so much to see and do here, need three months but are picking and choosing the most important stuff.
We are experts at the Underground, travelled on countless trains.
Highlights for me are St Paul's(where the photo was taken-that's me in the white top)-
it is awe inspiring both from an architectural view and also how it affects you personally being in such a place.
Also had goose bumps touring the War Cabinets rooms underground from where Winston Churchill directed WW11. He didn't use the underground bedroom much, preferred to watch the air raids! Only slept a few hours a night and expected his poor staff to do the same.
Also saw Queen Elizabeth go past in her carriage returning from opening Parliament.
They do pomp and ceremony well in this city.
Many other highlights but too much to tell, have been to the West End twice to see live theatre which has been very enjoyable.
Did a river cruise to Greenwich(as in Greenwich Mean Time or zero degrees longitude)
on Friday and saw countless places of historical interest
Also saw from the Thames, the area where the Great Fire of 1666 which killed thousands people, started. It wiped out the plague(100,000 dead) areas apparently.
We are doing a Wimbledon tour tomorrow then Hyde Park and Kensington Palace on Tues before going to the airport for the flight to Singapore then leave there on Friday to return home.
Hope all is well with everyone, love from Barbara
