Ulan Ude to Vlad Day 1
A few quiet riders this morning! Ah well off to Vlad should take about 6 days of wild camping running along the Russian side of the Chinese border.Pretty quiet but long day on tarmac to the first wild camp, to be honest a bit boring, on the good side Kev and his bike are ok although of course his confidence is a little dented. Hit some small dirt sections but only really the odd roadwork. The camp site was in a field along side some standing water within minutes we were surrounded by Russian youngsters who stayed with us all evening, to be fair more of a nuisance than a threat. Something we lack is the ability to communicate with the locals I hadn't realised before today how the Trans-Am was enhanced by our ability to speak Spanish. The next time we pass this way we need to have the ability to speak at least a little Russian. The second issue is Cyrillic script without the ability to read you can't even decide which town you've gone through. The mosquitoes and large horse flies have suddenly become a major problem we all have to wear head nets and we're still getting eaten alive. This place needs a Hilton or two.
