We got up for the free breakfast again this morning...I find it far too hard to say no to free weetbix haha! We had the best of intentions to go surfing this morning before our bus at 1:30 down to Brisbane, but it was pretty rubbish weather, raining on and off and we ended up not bothering! I skyped Aislinn, Katherine and Naomi for a bit which was awesome!! But couldn't hear them very well which was a bit rubbish, but still class to talk to them a bit.
After skyping, Sian, Leonie and I went for a walk down to the beach and sat for a bit but it was far too hot because it was so humid!! We ended up giving up and heading back, via the supermarket and a wee mcdonalds - so dangerous having it right beside the hostel haha! But it was amazing! I had fallen on the beach like an eejit and hurt my wrist, but got some ice from mcdonalds and wrapped it round it using my sarong...looked really cool but at least it helped!
We went back to catch the bus and I slept most of the way, it was quite a short journey, only about an hour and a half! We arrived in Brisbane just after 3 and Sian went on to her hostel (Base Central) while Leonie and I waited for our transfer to Bunk (a slightly cheaper hostel haha).
It took aaages to come, think they had forgotten about us, but we got there eventually! It seemed nice enough, although the 20 bed dorm was a little bit big for my liking...especially after getting used to basically having our own room in Mooloolaba! But oh well. I had planned to meet Gavin - a guy who is from Brisbane that I met in Munich the summer before last - to get a bit of a tour around the city from a local. So I checked in, had a shower etc and then went to see him! It was a bit random haha, but great to get a tour from a local and see non-backpacker things for once! Brisbane is actually a really cool city, I really like the atmosphere and stuff and it's quite nice to look at! Also finally somewhere with more than one or two pubs haha, the place where our hostel is is called Fortitude Valley which has loads of nightlife around it - I was starting to get a bit of withdrawal symptoms from never having proper nights out!
So went for a few drinks with Gavin and went for some awesome food in an italian where they make the food right in front of you - definitely the nicest thing I've eaten in weeks! Then I headed back to Bunk to meet Sian and Leonie and get changed to go out. When I got there I also ran into Tom who I had met in Cairns and seen in Rainbow Beach too - he is looking for work here before he heads off to Asia...and also Katherine who I had met on my last night in Cairns and have run into a few times at bus stops on the way down! Was pretty cool to see them! I love how travelling Australia you just run into the same people all the time as if you are all living in one city haha, because we all go down pretty much the same route, just different timescales!
Had a drink in the hostel bar with the girls which was actually cool, and really cheap! Then we went to meet Gavin and his friends for a bit. We went to a really cool (but also really expensive) bar called Fringe I think, which reminded me of a mix of Made in Belfast and Filthy McNastys at home...was really nice! We stayed there for a bit then went to look for a club, but most places had really big queues! The place we ended up was ok, it felt like a bit of a younger crowd but the music wasn't too bad after a while! Some of the dancing was hilarious though. Also I think it's official guys...I really can't shuffle anymore (even though I know I never could, I am now completely pathetic at it haha!). I was loving actually getting to wear my heels but they were absolutely killing me after a while haha, and we went for a wander, got some food (they have a whole street full of takeaways for after a night out...dangerous!) and then headed back to the hostel! Had a good wee night, really enjoying Brisbane so far!
