Got up fairly early this morning to rent some bikes and go for a cycle along the lake with Christie and Ruth! We set off around 9 and headed towards a place called Glendu Bay, which started with the track I had run along yesterday. It was absolutely gorgeous! Lovely weather, we had a LOT of photo breaks haha. The track was fairly flat for the first bit, but the second half was very hilly and the track was very stony so you couldn't even get any speed up on the downhills - it turned into pretty hard going! At one point I really thought I wouldn't make it, I'm far too unfit haha! Managed to keep going though, and we were rewarded with some absolutely stunning views - Lake Wanaka is gorgeous! We made it to Glendu Bay around 12.30, pretty knackered and getting a little worried about making it back haha. We stopped at the beach and had lunch, which was lovely! After a bit we bravely faced the journey home. Thankfully we decided to try the road back into town rather than the lakeside path...despite some major uphills there was a lot of downhill and we flew back to town in less than an hour!
We stopped in the town for ice cream and on the way I spotted a long path of red tile going along the waterfront, which was really cool! Each tile has a year and important historical things that happened that year, in NZ and around the world - it goes back 2000 years! It's such a cool idea, and was really interesting!
After our ice creams on the beach I went back to the hostel to get ready for my evening activity...flying a stunt plane! I wasn't really sure what to expect, tried not to think about it too much so I wouldn't freak out haha! A girl who works at the hostel dropped me down, and I met Ivan, the guy who was coming up on the plane with me. He's been doing aerobatics for years and told me about all the flips and stuff we could do...I was starting to get a bit worried haha. After suiting up in our pilot suits, I was sat in the pilots seat with Ivan as my co pilot! It was pretty crazy! Ivan did the take off and landing, but I did most of the flying in the air - it was almost just like driving a car haha! The views were absolutely amazing as well! We did a few loops and spins (with Ivan at the controls...I couldn't do it at all haha, far too scared!) and I freaked out haha, but it was awesome! My stomach completely flipped over every time I was upside down, but thankfully it settled when we got back to upright and I didn't need to use the sick bag haha. It was really cool - can't believe I flew a plane!
After the flight I bought the DVD as it was only $10 because he was trying out new software to make it, and he dropped me back to my hostel in town.
I went and bought some food, splashing out a little and buying some sauce for my pasta haha. Ended up buying more weetbix too - it's just too cheap! Had my dinner of pasta which was pretty nice, then chilled out for a bit reading my book. I fully intended to go to bed around half 9, but then Ruth appeared with the 2 guys from our room and convinced us to go for a drink with them and her friend's friend who lives here. We went to an Irish pub which was really nice, live music on which was cool. Ruth's friends were nice too - one of them said I was almost identical to someone he knows...Ivan had also said earlier that I really reminded him of his niece - this has got to be at least the 10th time someone has said i remind them of their friends or am exactly like someone they know...starting to think I must be a really generic person! Haha!
I only had one drink as I wasn't really feeling it, and went back to bed after a couple of hours! The clocks went back tonight - weird that they went forward at home last week!
