Was up at 5am this morning to go and swim with dolphins! Was pretty lucky I actually woke up and got out of bed haha, but I made it! Met Toby outside the hostel and we walked down together to get our mega thick wetsuits on, then we got a bus to the boat. We went out to sea for about 45 minutes, and on the way we saw an absolutely amazing sunrise! It was gorgeous! My camera was playing up though so I didn't get very many pictures :(. Finally when the sun came up we started to see some dolphins! Suddenly they were everywhere! They swam alongside the boat and did jumps and stuff and it was awesome! Was a little bit scared of going in with them though. We actually got a snorkelling lesson which I thought was pretty funny because I don't think I've had one yet and I've been on a good few snorkelling trips now! Soon we found a spot with lots of dolphins and we were in the water! It was really cold but the wetsuits were amazing and you barely felt it! I totally freaked though...there were dolphins everywhere! The visibility was really bad too so they appeared out of nowhere and I was far too scared...after about 5 minutes I was back on the boat because it was too much! The others were only in for about 10 more minutes anyway and then we were on to the next spot. I tried again and managed a good bit longer...didn't see as many here though, which was actually pretty good. It was really funny because everyone was making loads of random noises through their snorkels to try and attract the dolphins haha. Once I had managed to chill out and relax a bit it was really cool, there were actually dolphins everywhere! They swim right up close to you as well but don't touch you. They look at you and stuff as well - apparently if you catch their eye and start circling them they swim around you really fast! Couldn't really get over how many there was, there was easily hundreds, all wild out in the middle of the ocean! We made a few more stops and then took some photos and headed back to shore. After the last time in the water I felt seriously seasick though, and spent a lot of the way back to shore hugging a bucket which wasn't very pleasant! Was still really glad I did it though, it was an awesome experience!
The stray bus picked us up straight from the dolphins and we stopped back at the hostel to grab our bags, then were off towards Picton! When we reached Picton most of the bus were heading up to Wellington in the North Island, which was pretty sad as that was basically everyone I had been talking to! I will probably see a few of them when I get up there though, so it's nice to have people to see in a few weeks!
The bus journey was fairly uneventful, slept the first bit and then just chatted to Tommy most of the way. We had another pie stop en route which was great for my diet plans haha!
When we arrived in Picton we said bye to everyone and then me and 5 other girls were dropped at our hostel "the villa". It was really cool, definitely one of the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in! We were all in the same room, and there was a really nice kitchen and even a jacuzzi! The other girls were really nice: Eva and Rebecca (German), Manon (Dutch), Julia (American) and Gemma (English). We chilled out for a bit and did some washing as a group which was handy, then Julia, Gemma and I went for a walk around town and down to look at the waterfront which was gorgeous! After a bit we headed back, and I went for a nap! I woke up about 2 hours later haha, with just enough time for a quick run before it got dark. Then we chilled out in the jacuzzi for a bit, I learnt my German word for the day (ente) and after skyping my mum (was able to borrow headphones with a microphone...it's great travelling with people!) it was time for bed!
