So we dutifully followed the very efficient Charles through the border and on the train to the hotel! When we got to the hotel it was really nice, finally ha a hairdryer!! Awesome haha, I was so excited. Charles took us on our orientation walk, pointed out some places to eat and the main roads etc then left us to our own devices! We were missing Jenny already haha. Eventually decided on a meeting time and place for dinner, then we all separated. The girls and I walked down Nathan road and had a look in the park which was really nice, then went back to the hotel before dinner! Got on Facebook which was quite exciting haha, just in time to detag a lot of not so nice photos from my leaving night courtesy of les! Haha.
I was surprised how different Hong Kong actually was to mainland china. It was a LOT more westernised. There was a lot of subtle differences... Proper toilets, not as many iffy smells; driving on the left, actually obeying traffic lights, and hardly any horn beeping; much much less spitting... And they had bakeries everywhere! Bread! Real bread! Haha. It was also so much more ethnically diverse, lots of White people, loads of indians and a few black people - I hadn't even realised that I hadn't seen a black person once in china until I hit Hong Kong!
We met for dinner where Charles had recommended, but it was pretty fast foody and western and there wasn't even a table big enough for all of us! We didn't really want that for our last Chinese meal together! So got Charles to bring us to a proper Chinese restaurant, even though it was a bit more expensive. Was worth it for a last final dinner! After dinner we headed down to the Avenue of Stars to watch the light show, which was pretty cool but a bit of an anticlimax to be honest! Kind of preferred Shanghai. The Chinese were loving it though, lots of oohs and ahhs haha. After we'd taken a few photos we wandered back up towards the hotel and ended up in an Irish bar for a few drinks. It was nice! but sad when it got to going back and saying bye to people! Hoping to see a few of them again though :)
