One of the Doric columns remade and stood upon the foundations of the temple of Zeuss in Olympia. Apparently this column cost a fortune to be made and re instated at the site so no further attempts will be made to erect any more here. Originally the temple was built around 450 BC and contained the statue of Zeus which was 13 metres high and considered one of the wonders of the ancient world. The temple had 21 of these columns but earthquakes destroyed the temple and it is now just rubble with the original columns spread around it base where they fell. The whole area was covered under silt until the late 1800s when major excavations started but its location was made known during the late 1700s when remains of the temple were found. Excavation work is still ongoing today.
