The chateau itself is built on a raised platform and is surrounded by a moat like pond as if it were an island floating in the gardens. The stonework required for the building of the estate must have been huge as all the waterways and ponds are all stone lined and stone topped and the chateau itself must have been a monumental build in its time as it also has levels under the ground containing kitchen, cellars, cool rooms and servants quarters.
