First day of snow, last day of work, whilst finishing to put up the snow fences. There's some kind of poetic symmetry there, if that even exists, I think I may have just made that up. Except that I've then been asked to work one more day. If this was a book, well it might be described as a slow-starter but, also, it would not have that extra day.
Speaking of writing, last weekend I went to dinner (mmm, fondu) and had the pleasure of working on an epic comic with some newly found collaborators (age 9, 8 and 6). The knight (the drawing of which was perhaps my only significant contribution, and he looked more like a gladiator from ancient Greece) wanted to rescue the princess from the dragon, but the dragon was afraid of only one thing… the princess! He was so scared he cried about it (close up on his eye and a single tear). His best friend was the chef (frankly, I felt the character a little shoe-horned in at this point, included mostly for the 6-year-old's ability to draw a chef, but I let it go because you have to compromise when you collaborate, right?), who made the best toast, and the dragon paid him back by roasting food. But he'd lost his ability to produce fire because of his fear (he is seen burping in the princess' face, which blows off her hat). Now the chef fits in perfectly since it is in his interest to help the dragon regain his fire, and I'm shamed by my lack of foresight and imagination, and so just when it was getting good, bed time. It's the last time I work with kids. They can't handle the pressures of creative work.
I'll be leaving the isle on tuesday and spending a little while more in l'Ancienne-Lorette, before heading up to see my family (and possibly some more work) in St-Jean sur Richelieu.
Also, happy birthday to my brother, who can now learn to drive. If you are based in Newcastle, stay indoors.

Holger Hey Dom, great to hear that you're doing fine. I'd love to see that comic! All the best, Holger
Hob Dom. I am lying in your bed and reading your blog. Very much enjoying them, they are surprisingly engaging. Remember though: never be afraid to ask to crap in someone's house after cutting logs. It can work. It's very authentic. Think about it.
Sue Hi Dom, I'm glad to hear all is going well. Where can I get a copy of the story? Keen to know how the dragon fares and whether the princess falls for the chef and gets over her anger issues. A classic.... I am enjoying the blog too. Apologies to Newcastle for encouraging Christophe to drive. Take care. Sue x
