Went to see the Big Red Rock! It wasn't quite as magical as I remember but it was really very beautiful. We arrived in Alice (who the f*** is ...) at around 7pm had dinner and an early night because the next day we had to be ready to leave at 15 minutes past silly o'clock. We stayed in a backpackers, you know. Oh yes, we can rough it when we need to. Actually, the backpackers was very clean and we had a doube room with ensuite bathroom so it was kinda cheating.
The trip to Uluru is unfortunately broken up by a visit to kings canyon (I left the capitals out on purpose, Jon), which was about 3 feet tall. I remembered this from my last trip so pre-empted any tantrums and loud insults by warning the ridiculous one of this. Uluru is fabulous but surrounded by trillions of tourists which is understandable. Our tour guide was spectacularly useless so we gate crashed a proper guided tour around the rock to learn about the history etc.
We spend one night under the stars in a swag bag. The best night's sleep yet, even from people initially worried about snakes and spiders.
Anyway, I'll let D fill in any gaps - I've no doubt there are some.
