What's up
New Zealand was a place of beauty but also a place of isolation. We got to auckland after missing a day while flying from Santiago, the flight was 13 hours and the time difference was +15 so we missed august 19th. Got into town after a few hours and chilled in the city for a few days. Then we rented a camper van and set off. First stop was the garage after our suspension broke so we got a replacement van. Then we set off for Rotorua where we went into some caves which had millions of glow worms lighting up the whole cave. There is an underground river there so we took a small boat and floated through. Pretty amazing sight. Then we hit some other caves which are full of salt formations formed over millions of years.
We carried on down the south island where isnt that much to do unless you have millions of pounds and want to take a flight over the lakes and what not. A few days later we headed to the capital, wellington. This place is by far the windiest city on earth, chicago ain;t nothing compared to this. We went to the national museum here which was interesting. Also we watched a rugby match between Wellington and Christchurch in which one of the best players in the world was playing, Dan Carter. We went out a few times to some clubs and stuff, its pretty rowdy at night somewhat like a friday night in the UK.
Next we hit the ferry and crossed Cooks' Straight, a beautiful stretch with mountains all around. It was so windy on the deck it was all we could do to keep standing up.We decided to head down the west coast of the south island pretty quickly so we headed to the Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers. The drive on the way down was absolutely stunning and cos we had the van we could stop wherever we wanted to admire and have a coffee! After this we shot down to queenstown where we met Adsie for a week. In the mean time we also headed to Milford Sound which was also absolutely stunning. The drive was pretty beatiful too, driving past massive avalanches that hapenned only a few days before hand, there were numerous warning saying no stopping due to avamanche risk.
Headed back to queenstown where unfortunately we got sucked back into UK drinking culture and got a bit sqiffy a few times. Me and Harry also did the 134m Nevis Highwire Bunjee Jump which was as terrifying as it sounds. Standing on the edge and looking all the way down is a rediculously terrifying moment but the jump is exhilarating. What a feeling!
We then headed to christchurch and flew back to auckland where on our last night we managed to find the Miss Bikini 2009 competition in which Miss New Zealand was a contestant, good times! In summary, New Zealand is a stunning and very civilised place, the people are very friendly and if you want to scare the s*** out of yourself the opportunities are endless!
