When we arrived in Sydney, Richard kindly picked us up from the airport which was a nice change from having to mess about with taxis, trams, buses....
He took us back to Ann's- Nadas mum's house off Oxford Street which is a very nice area.
Nada made us a proper cup of tea which is the first in almost six months....
We sat and told them all about our travels so far and ate the worlds nicest pizza !!! The rain was bad outside (Dom and Richard figured this out when they went to pick up the takeaway) and it was even thundering and lightening.... but, although still not hot, it was warmer than Melbourne !! Yey
We slept on the airbed the first night as Ann had another guest staying from New Zealand. They apologised but we told them the airbed is luxury compared with some places weve been staying.
The first day we got up nice and early as Nadas little boy Monty was also staying. He is adorable (I think hes about 3 or 4 months younger than Reanie)
The seven of us had breakfast together and then Dom and I went off for our first days adventure in Sydney.....
We got a bus to Circular Quay, then got the train to the Sydney Olympic Stadium to watch Canterbury Bulldogs V Wests Tigers (that's rugby - to anyone who knows about as much as me...)
Actually they call it footy out here, we got lectured by a guy who worked for the trains. He told us NOT to call it Rugby out here, you must state that its LEAGUE, as 'rugby' to these guys just means Union. Then he gave us the history of union and league and explained the difference between the two...blah blah blah.... we kept checking our watches as we didnt want to miss the game....haha bless him)
The game was a really close one, end to end. The Bulldogs won 22-20 (we were rooting for the tigers to win).
On the evening we walked around Sydney Harbour and a place called The Rocks which is a really old part of Sydney,. I loved it here as it has loads of proper pubs and the buildings are beautiful. We had some food and an ice chocolate in Guylians (the chocolate makers!!! mmm!!!) and got the bus back to Anns.
The next day we headed back to Circular Quay and headed straight to the Sydney Bridge to enquire about the Sydney Bridge Climb! Well within 5 minutes if being there we were already in our suits getting a prep talk before going up!!
Normally the groups are around 14 people but we were lucky there were only 5 in our group (3 girls from Surrey).
Our guide was really funny and kept our nerves down. We all had to wear these 1 peice suits and you couldn't take up anything including cameras (which was a shame). We also all had headsets so the guide could talk to us while we were climbing up.
Just before we left to go climb the bridge he said to us all...
'I must warn you the first bit is the scariest'
We all looked at him, thinking what have we got ourselves into...
'You have to walk down the street dressed in those outfits, people may laugh at you!' Luckily Beth had her shades with her so she could disguise herself haha.
The climb was really good, if not a little scary. You are clipped to the bridge railings with a metal chain thing...hmmm... so you feel slightly more safe....
We did the 'discovery' climb which is opposed to the regular Bridge Climb.... So we got to climb through the bridge instead of over it.
Once you get to the summit, the views are amazing. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to climb up and back down again.
At the end we got a 'free' (there they go again with the term free) photograph of the five of us, but you could also buy the other photographs our guide took but it was $30 for one (about £15) eek!!! So we just walked away with the 'free' one.....
We were quite tired after our climb so we went out for a few drinks and some food, bought some souveniers then headed back to Anns for a cuppa and bed !!!
One day we went to Bondi beach which is one of Australias ( if not the Worlds) most famous beaches. But unfortunately it wasnt sunbathing/swimming weather.... Its Autumn here so its cooling down quite a lot, although when the sky is clear and the sun is shining, it can get quite hot.
We ate fish and chips with the Seagulls beady eyes on us (just like Brid) then headed to Bondi Junction.
The next day we went to The Blue Mountains on the train which took two hours from Sydney. The town was called Katoomba and has breathtaking views. We caught the tourist bus with a bunch of pensioners and got dropped off at various spots.
We rode on a cable car and the Scenic railway which was like a fairground ride!!! Its the steepest train in the Southern Hemisphere and we went up BACKWARDS!!!
We saw The Three Sisters (Mountains) and some cascades.... citing!
It was beginning to get very cold so we gotta hot chocolate and headed back....... tomorrow we are going to Bowral to see Rich and Nadas new house!!!!
