Wow, words can not describe this place. We arrived here Thursday afternoon and decided to have a wonder around while waiting for Sarah's friend Caz to arrive. Every corner had a hot dog or weed van. We walked past the flat building and found ourselves in Union Square. Later that night when Caz arrived we walked down to time square, flashing billboards everywhere. There where people on corners selling tickets to shows and tours, and guess which fool got conned to buy tickets to a comedy show.
Friday our first full day we a six hour tour with a company called free tours by foot, you pay at the end what you think it was worth. We covered a large area starting in wall street, did you know Trump only paid $8 000 000 for Trump building, I also discovered that George Washington had no teeth. Wall street is named after the wall that was made by the Dutch to keep the native Americans out in the 17th Century. The road on Wall Street is made from bricks from the original wall.
We moved over to get a picture perfect photo of the one world trade center and then moved on to the 9/11 memorial, it was so surreal to be there and picture all the tragedy that happened there.
We ventured through Little Italy, China Town and the meat packer district that is now just full of over priced apartments where the rich and famous live. We stopped at the one where Heath Ledger died.
Saturday we went to the top of Rockefeller Building and got the most amazing views, I actually cried as it was then it hit me I was in flipping New York. We walked through Central Park and there was a guy with a snake that you could hold for $10, of course I had to have a go. That night we went to the comedy gig I got conned into, it wasn't too bad and the finished the night on the Empire State Building, with spectacular night views of this amazing city.
On Sunday we did another free tours by foot around Harlem, our tour guide was fantastic, once that finished we had lunch in Harlem at a place called Jacob's, the food was just amazing.
That night we went to see the Yankees play the Mets, the lead up and hype to the game was fun, but once it started was a bit boring, probably because I had no idea what was going on and didn't realise how easy it is for them to get out.
Monday we had a great Sleep in and went to lunch to a place called the Smith, across from where we were staying. I had a pasta with BBQ rib meat, hands down the meal of the trip so far. We then caught the Ferry over to see the Statue of Liberty, once again another moment where you just have to pinch yourself to believe this is real. After we finished there we walked over the Brooklyn Bridge, there is one lane for walkers and one for bikes, how no one got hit by a bike is a surprise to me as the bikes come through at high speeds. We had dinner in Brooklyn and then walked back over getting some magic night views of the city.
Tuesday we went to Katz Deli, famous for their sandwiches and also for the movie When Harry Met Sally. If you get a sandwich from there, make sure you have someone to share it with as its impossible to eat one to yourself.
In the afternoon we all went separate ways to do our own thing, I started at the zoo and got to see my first Grizzly Bear and some beautiful birds. I then went to check out St Patrick's Cathedral, the pictures don't do it justice, just stunning inside. As Sarah was playing cops and robbers Caz and I met back up and did a food and pub crawl having drinks and food at all different places around Manhattan, my favorite was deep fried oysters, just to die for.
Wednesday I woke a little seedy from the night before, but after a Berroca I was good to go, I decided to do the Sex in City tour. We went to the shop where Charlotte bought her Rabbit, the restaurant where Carrie and Big had their engagement party and finished off with a Cosmopolitan at Steve and Aidens bar. That night I caught back up with the girls for our last supper at Momofuku, once again the food did not disappoint. New York you have my heart. Next stop Boston.
