We had noticed a small roofed area the previous day and wondered what it might be. In the morning it was a bustling little market place with fresh fruit and vegetables and souvenirs, so was able to purchase a few gifts.
We had a call from Ian & Julie who were coming to Prague. We would meet them at the station. Dave located their hotel so we were able to take them straight there when they arrived.
Prague Castle is where the current President Vaclav Klaus lives. It covers a huge area on the top of a hill across the Charles Bridge from the old town.
A visit to the tower at the start is a good way as you can see views of Prague.
The statues across the bridge are of various saints and popes but are black and in need of a clean.
The castle is free to enter and you can wander around the buildings, including St Vitas Church and the extensive gardens which offer amazing views over Prague.
St. Vitus Cathedral is the largest and the most important temple in Prague. Apart from religious services the coronations of Czech kings and queens also took place in here. The cathedral is a place of interment of remains of provincial patron saints, sovereigns, noblemen and archbishops.
We also visited Nearby Petrin Hill the site of the Prague Observation Tower. It is a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower built in 1891. It is reached by a funicular railway and offers views of Prague in all directions.
Our next walk was up to the station to meet Julie and Ian who were coming from Prague. They certainly didn't have a comfortable trip like we did.
We had drinks and a snacks and then a walk around town returning to the same restaurant for dinner.
