Our train trip to Prague went smoothly. Although it was long the time passed quickly, the seats were spacious and comfortable only another couple in the compartment but they spent most of the time in the dining car which was good as she had a hacking cough. We glided through many changes in the countryside as the train moved very smoothly. Occasionally we caught glimpses of the river but mostly the scenery was rural with many ruined buildings and small homes, that looked neat & tidy but fairly basic and certainly nothing modern. We stopped several times but no names of places we knew until Bratislava in Slovakia. The train became more crowded as we neared Prague and it became dark and began to rain but we arrived at the exact time stated in the itinerary.
We had a map to our accommodation would we find it in the dark? It was raining, we were tired we take the easy option a taxi. We get a price from the taxi driver we should have said no and walked off. When we hot to our address Ross had given us the wrong no in his email. The address we gave to the taxi driver was very unsavoury looking he said no and rang Ross (our host) who was able to give us the right no which was just across the street. He helped us out in that way. We had to wait 30 mins as we said we would arrive at 7pm. Ross was very welcoming and made sure we knew everything we would need to know to find our way around Prague but he was very angry about the cost of the taxi 4 times what it should have been. He said it gives his city a bad name. We learned a valuable lesson. The apartment is comfortable with at large bedroom lounge-kitchen and separate toilet so we have space to move unlike hotel rooms and our room on the boat.
Our first meal at "The Louvre recommended by Ross, the one waiter ignored us as he was busy serving a large table so we sat down and no one objected. The service was ordinary as was the meal a little meat and plenty of gravy accompanied by lots of dumplings and bread.
