I didn't realize new Orleans was in a swamp! Had to drive across a bridge about 7 miles long to get to it, through 7 miles of swamp, like the biggest lake ever seen ever!!! Weather amazing and had the luxury of staying in a hotel which was so nice, with a swimming pool & double bed! The smaller things you appreciate after staying in hostels! The main part is called the French Quarter and is full of really old cultural buildings looking like their from France! As this place is in a swamp the people are rough and a bit gypsy like, you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them and we were told not to walk around alone.
Here for 3 nights gave us the chance to relax and felt like a proper holiday!
The main strip of bars called Bourbon street was like 3miles long and made Magaluf look posh!! That says it all!!! This is where we went for #NYE and to the Mississippi river for the fire works which was good!
Here you can walk from bar to bar with your drink which is convenient and they sell cocktails called had grenades which were lethal!! I got one of the Under age Korean girls one and next thing I knew she had to go home as was sick! They also sold cocktails called Hurricanes!!
The bars had a lot of country/blues bands on but the one called "Krazy Corner" had a hip hop MC on which was good! Some shady characters in there though, proper Americans!
Before NYE went on a swamp tour to look for crocodiles, it was weird to be in a boat in a swamp seeing people build their holiday home shacks on the swamp! We didn't see crocodiles but saw some turtles but the dropped into the water as soon as we got close!!! Cheeky lil things!
