We have now just arrived on Easter Island after spending the last week in Argentina and Santiago, Chile.
We arrived in Mendoza after a 19 hour bus journey which was very comfortable - spacious seats, foot rests, films, food and bingo! We went on a slightly disappointing wine tasting tour which was made for with a delicious lunch. It was Argentina's 200th anniversary whilst we were there and there were lots of events going on in the nearby square including live bands, craft stalls and food stalls with yummy BBQ food.
The journey to Santiago was very scenic as we had to cross the Andies. The border crossing was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains which will be ski resorts in a week's time when it is due to snow. We didn't do much in Santiago other than go out for one last night with the tour group. Four others left at the same time as us with five of the origianl group carrying on for another four weeks and a few more joining on the way.
We are now off to do our first trip around Easter Island to see the ' big men head men'.
