HEI!! We have based ourselves in Beppu, a smallish town by the sea, which is just what the doctor ordered to recoup and rest our tired feet after trapsing around the huge metropolis that is hiroshima - they do love their cities here but then again, japan houses twice the population of the uk.
our aim is to chillax and sun it up on the beach then visit a samurai village closeby on a day trip and (hopefully) spend as little dollar as possible due to the expense weve had to part with in the cities. we have made good progress and are scheduled to end up on one of the tropical islands before we leave for s.korea next week
hiroshima and the surrounding areas around the bay was awesome. we made it to miyajima which was beautifully set around scenic japanese mountainous islands. we got the ferry but as usual had to walk and sweat it up on a 2.8km walk to the beach! however, it was worth it just to see the free-roaming deer on the beach and get a snap of me and den, aka the sleazemaster, going 2s up on on one of them shortly before it tried to eat most of my magazine! f***in ganit ha
ive been asking some of the locals where we can find the elusive 12ft japanese spider crabs but to no avail. some say they reside on the north island - hoikkaido - but only come to the shore to lay their eggs in the spring months and others seem to believe its an urban myth and they dont grow to that size. i think we will have to compromise and settle for seeing one in osaka aquarium. either way it has to be done!
well thats all for now folks. until the next blog
peace out and enjoy the wet weather in blighty ;)
