New Year's Rockin' Eve
I'm staying in HoiAn. Been here for 3 days already. I love it here. And decided to stay a bit longer. I had lunch with my local tailor who took me to a real Vietnamese place hidden behind a back alley (as a thank you for all the suits I bought and the friends I referred to her). very sweet lady. She arranged a cooking class for me with a local chef (not a tourist chef, but a real local woman who runs a Vietnamese restarant). I also ran into my new Italian friend Elena, (from the 6 day Sapa trip). She's staying at the same hotel in HoiAn whcih is quite lovely with a pool, HBO, and a private balcony. it's great here and feeling a bit like home. so we decided to spend new year's together. I'm treating myself with a massage ($10 for 1.5 hours). I'm taking a sunset boat on the river for cocktails, then eating at a real local seafood restaurant (arranged by my tailor; non-tourist food), taking in a local performance and then celebrating with the other travelers here in town for the new year. It's better than being alone in the big city of Siagon. This personal little town has become familiar and I'm just now being able to take advantage of my local connections. So stay I will.
Happy New Year's to all of you!
