What a country! I have to come back here before I leave Latin America...
My first days in Havana I was a bit scared. Suddenly I was degraded to be a pair of trousers ->chino I did a lot of walking though, in old Havana, along the Malecone, over to the business area. The architecture in the old part was stunning and nothing could describe the sight of an old man in a white suit with his hat and his cuban cigar, driving through the streets of Havana! I also went to Coppelia and experienced cubans endulging in 8 scoops of icecream!
I left after 5 days to Maria La Gorda. This was going to be my beach holiday since I spent all summer strolling through the crowded streets of Asia. The beach was next to perfect! White coral sand and a few palms... I read my book about Ernesto Guevara, enjoyed the sunshine and met a few interesting people there... Ronald, a police officer from Denmark and Donald, a gardener from Scottland. I went to Vi?s together with them. Vi?s was my best experience in Cuba so far. We hired motorbikes and the only thing I wanted to do was to out my hands over my head and scream cause I was so happy!!! I didn't though, we would probably have ended in a bikecrash or something...Unfortunately they left me but I hired a bike the day after and went biking on an orange dirtroad that Don recommended. I've never seen landscape like this in my whole life...
Then I went to Trinidad. I met my two friends again on the stairs to Casa del Musica. I had three more fantastic days with them but then I had to leave for Havana...
Back in Havana...found a casa particulares on the 20th floor with spectacular view! Met a canadian-american man that told me his lifestory over a coffee. This world is a strange place is all I wan say...
The next days I did some sightseeing to cigar factory and met a canadia-chineese girl that I spent the next days with. Went to my first ballet ever which was really enjoyable! Continued the street strolling and went around to placed the contained history about the revolution. I was always on the outlook for propaganda and streetspaintings of my Che...
My last days I met some strange people. First I went to Casablanca and met two students; one from Chile and one from HK. Spent one day with them and we ate and drank some odd stuff that we bought on the street. Later I ran in to a cuban guy that showed me his house...In the flat next door there was a small family. The father was sitting on the floor making toys to the children of cardboard...Still they invited my in and offerend me some coffee...I know its not leagal to go with the locals in Cuba + its not safe! But once in a while you have to take some risks...
Left with a sad heart but made a promise to return as soon as possible!
