After such a long hot day yesterday it was great to get to Grenada and cool off. We stopped for a break along the expressway for a walk about, bathroom break and a chance for more refreshments. Reminded me of the stops along the 401 in Ontario. Get in, get out and just buy your stuff and don't bother me. I did notice that gas was $1.31E and diesel was $1.28E. This is the time of year when the hot cities pretty much close down and everyone goes on holidays. Not much open for shopping but we really have't had time anyway.
Grenada is quiet but lovely. It's built in hill country so is very scenic. The Moorish influence is very apparent in the shape of the pool, fountains, hotel entrance, tile work and the general way that they landscape their gardens & parks. Anything they can do naturally to help stay cool in the extreme heat of their summers. They still rely on gravity fed watering for a lot of their irrigation.
We're only at around 400 m in the city but the Sierra Nevada mtns are only 30 mins away and they're at 3000 m. There are ski hills there for winter months enjoyment, although now it's hard to believe cooler temps when we're sweating in 40 degree heat.
The olive trees are everywhere so this is they're main industry around here besides tourism. We had an olive oil tasting at one stop... Didn't realize how much they made here in Spain. They make use of all of the land by planting the trees up the side of the hills and then they hand pick them rather than mechanically. To pick by hand they just bang on the tree and catch the olives in a net. Ta Da olives!
