we are chilling out in Broome- lovely motel with air-con, I might take some
shifting! We found the swimming pool this morning and had a swim-
apparently the box jellyfish and stingers haven't arrived yet but the sea
lice make you itch! So might give the beautiful sea a miss. Infact most
things make you itch around here- the flies like to bite you, the mosquito's
take over when the sun goes down and the ants will have a go night or day!
Still enjoying the cycling and the stars, the birds are real charactors- I
fell in love with a little corrella last week- there were loads of them
sqwauking (?) around but one sat on a branch looking at me out of one eye,
then came down on the ground next to me- he didn't want my apple core but
when I offered him a bit of ginger biscuit he ate the lot out of my hand!
We have see a beautiful frilled neck lizard, a huge red kangaroo, and
lots of smaller ones. Tony ran over one in the dark- I think he was
checking on the stars at the time- its understandable because he was laying
down in the middle of the road (the roo, not Tony!)
Last week we cycled along beside a bush fire- wouldn't want to get any
closer! Then we had a thunderstorm in the middle of the night- we have
been sleeping under just the inner tent as its so hot- so had to get up and
put the fly on- both of us dancing around in the altogether- not a pretty
site!
Have met lots of good Samaritons who have replenished our water supplies-
and dear Peter one of the road maintainance crew that seems to be going the
same way as us- has checked on us frequently and handed out cool drinks and
even a cold beer! That was the best tasting beer ever!
We met a German couple who flagged us down while we were going up a long
hill- we thought ahh- they are going to offer us a cold drink so we stopped-
they asked if they could take our photo- so we posed while Tony told them
how a cold drink was always welcome (in his subtle way), the dear lady said
that I was obviously no youngster with my gray hair - bless her, then they
b*****ed off- not posing again till we get the drink up front!
