We have got to the last Caribbean island we are visiting, Curaçao. It was part of the Netherlands Antilles until 2010 but is now an independent country. We are in the capital Willemsted which is full of brightly painted buildings. Apparently a former Governor said that white buildings gave him a headache so he wanted them re-painted. We were told he also owned a paint factory! The town is divided into two by the water, they are linked by the Emma Bridge which is a floating bridge. When boats want to pass the bridge floats open. If an orange flag is flown then it just opens a little bit for small boats. A blue flag means that it opens fully for up to 40minutes - they have a free ferry for when you can't use the bridge.
