Well its been an amazing 3 weeks !!
On April 7th I went with Malisa and her family on a Stadtrundfahrt ( City Tour ) on a double decker bus. It was amazing, we went all across the city and saw so many amazing things. We went passed the Harbour and I got a better view of it this time. Its so huge ! We also went passed the Speicherstadt and Hafencity. Those newly built modern buildings are the most expensive apartments in Hamburg but they have an amazing view of the city & Harbour.
We also went to St.Michaelis Kirche. It is the Main Church in Hamburg. Its absolutely breathtaking , the church is white and gold inside and its so beautiful. Up on the observation deck you could see all of Hamburg. The church is the largest in Hamburg & second tallest at 132 meters high.
The weekend after I got together with the crew and some westgate kids and their exchange partners and together we went to the Hamburg Dom! Its this huge amusement park located in St. Pauli , not far from town square! It was so much fun, I got to see everyone again , Dennis, Mathias , Tony & Mathias from Niedersachsen even came for the weekend to Hamburg to spend it with us Hamburger's haha ! It was a blast, if you want to check out photos from the Hamburg Dom check them out under photos.
Finally this last weekend I got the opportunity to go on a boat tour across the Elbe ! I saw the richest part of Hamburg on the boat, those mansions are beautiful and huge, they're right along the beaches. How cool would it be to live there ? I got a closer look on the Hamburg Harbour and its so big, one of the biggest harbours in the world.
When we got back , we walked through an underground tunnel underneath the Elbe. Cars, Cyclists and Pedestrians can walk under there to get across. It was so sick! On the other side the view is so cool , you can see all the churches, the big buildings and the harbour !
Also on that day I got to go to my favourite church of all. St. Nikolai Church. It is probably one of the most historcial places you'll find in Hamburg and I'll tell you why.
St. Nikolai Church is the oldest church in Hamburg, first erected in 1195. Now the " Great Fire " of Hamburg destroyed the church in 1842 but it was rebuilt in 1874. Its the tallest church in Hamburg , and at one point it was the tallest church in the world. Its a total of 483 feet high with the steeple. Now during the bombings of World War II the steeple served as a point of orientation for the Allied bomber pilots. The church burned down in the firestorm in July of 1943.
Now the Church was never rebuilt. The citizens of Hamburg wanted to keep it in ruin as a symbol of what happened to Hamburg during that time period. The church itself doesn't exist anymore, just the tower itself and some ruins of the church are still there. You can see on the church tower that it was burnt. You can even go up the tower and see all of Hamburg from 250 feet up. Its absolutely breathtaking.
Photos are uploaded already , so check them out !
These last 3 weeks have been incredible ! Next week I have my holidays so I'll write another entry after my cruise to Norway & trip to Berlin !
