About 24 hours after having left OR Tambo, we arrived in a very warm Siem Reap. The main attraction of the town (and perhaps the country is Angkor Wat). That is tomorrow's outing. Our Cambodia experience started when we got picked up from the airport in a tuk tuk and drove the 25 min to the hotel. Even though Im pretty sure the tuk tuk has transported hundreds of suitcases in the same way, I feel a bit more at ease with my foot against it to stop in from tumbling down. Once we arrived at Friendly Villa Boutique Hotel (and some thankfully carried our suitcases up the 3 flights of stairs, we settle down, decide to take a quick shower and go and explore the night market.
The night market and pub street area is quite busy (or so I thought till we were there later the next night). We pass many restaurants with tourists sitting having one of the 'happy hour' $0.50 local beers and we follow suit... In two aspects - a touristy restaurant in pub street and a local beer. We enjoy the beer with some local cambodian 'tourist' food. We go for a stroll through the market, buy our first ice cream of the trip and sit down for a 30 min foot massage for $2.50 with a free back and neck massage thrown in. Even though the back and neck part was only about 5 min, I love a bargain so I'm happy. We fade shortly after that and take a tuk tuk back to the hotel around 21:00.
I take the second shower in a few hours and even though we are 5 hours ahead of SA time, i immediately fall into a somewhat comatised sleep. Next day Angkor Wat.
