So what did I do on the day most museums are closed? Well, I went to the Louvre. Now that place is really overwhelming!
Out of the thousand or so people in there 99.9 percent went just to see Mona Lisa . She was pretty cool. Very overwhelming with the amount of people! But then you turn around and there's the hugest panting of "the wedding feast" that was cray cray.
I decided to begin my tour of the louvre With the roman/Greek section first. I wish I had brushed up on my roman and Greek mythology but it was fun none the less. It was not Crowded and and it was cool to seeing things I studied in college, but real life. Also, we just visited Rome and seeing artwork from the Vatican and the pantheon was pretty killer.
I then made way towards the Mona Lisa section. You enter a hall of paintings everywhere ! It's really overwhelming with the paintings and people. My favorite of some of the art work were the headless John the baptist and some of the wood worked paintings hidden in side rooms.
The best part of the hall of paintings were everyone in there went to see the Mona Lisa not realizing right when you walk out of the room there's da vinci picture of the female form! I couldn't believe people didn't recognize it as I was the one of 3 people who were looking at it. Freaking gem! I wish I took a picture, don't know why I didn't.
My favorite picture had to be Ribera " le pied". It's basically the only painting in that whole section in the Louvre where the boy in the picture was smiling! I loved it. It was a happy painting:)
I ended my tour of the louvre in the African section. My favorite section. There were maybe 20 people tops and the wood art and sculptures were refreshing to see instead of what's the popular art. The section also had a pacific island section/ I'm guessing it was a native art section from different part of the US, Canada, south america.
Of course I found the Hawaii sculpture ! Even one of the carved heads from rapa nui was there. That was such a fun section for me because a lot of the art were super random. I Like random.
Obviously, there is way more to see, but I don't think anything could top the Africa / native section for me. It was awesome!
Well , tomorrow I'm off to see the catacombs and what I really can't wait to see is the impressionist /post impressionist paintings. That's my favorite. Monet, Picasso, Renoir , Matisse, I can't wait to meet you!
