It's now been two weeks since we left Galapagos, Guayaquil and Ecuador. We left Guayaquil in a bus without air condition in 42 degrees, and drove for 28 hours. Definately not the most comfortable transportation I've experienced. But nevertheless, we arrived in Pisco 27th of March. Here we are working with the organisation Pisco sin fronteras. Pisco was struck by a 7.9 earthquake in 2007 which destroyed about 85% of the city. Since then Pisco sin fronteras have been working with rebuilding the infrastructur. It's hard work, basically building houses from scratch. I, Eirik, jumped on a fresh project my second day here and have stayed on it since. Now, a little bit over a week later, I have taken over the project as project leader, and hope to finish the house during this week or early next week. Since last tuesday our team has built a house out of bamboo and scrap-wood for a family of six people. It's a pretty gratefull task, and a great way to volunteer, as you get to see upfront how much of a difference your efforts make. With just a couple of dollars and some man-hours a familys life is dramatically changed for the better.
The second week turned out to be a bit harder than the first. Ludvig got sick, struck by the so called Pisco Belly, and I got stung, by a scorpion according to the doctor, in my foot. The sting was on monday, and it's just been getting worse and worse. I kept on working til thirsday, when my foot grew to twice its original size and I was no longer able to walk. So right now I'm pumped up on anti-biotics and painkillers. Hopefully we'll both be back on our feet before the weekend is over!
Stay tuned, pictures are coming :)
