We were keen to see some of the countryside in Australia before our flight to Singapore on the Monday. So on Sunday morning we got up in decent time and caught a train up to Katoomba. We had pre booked a YHA there so we checked in and dropped out stuff off. The lady at the desk was really lovely and showed us the best walks to do in a day. We mentioned that I had a weak ankle and she showed us the difficult routes not to take! It was stunning. We walked right round and looked out at the views to the three sisters and the cliffs and bush beyond. We walked down to look at one of the waterfalls, it was really stunning and after hopping over some stepping stones onto the level ground my foot rolled right over. This time felt a lot worse than before. I fell to the ground 'like a sack of potatoes!' - James's words not mine!! It was agony. I had been wearing a strap to try to prevent exactly that from happening but it obviously wasn't sturdy enough. I was in a lot of pain and could not put any weight on my foot. James ended up carrying me back up to the road. We were trying to work out how to get me back to the YHA, I was keen not to do James's suggestion and sit in a shopping trolley that was there! Luckily a guy came over who had noticed that we were a but stuck and offered us a lift. Once back at the YHA they took one look at me and called a cab to take us to the hospital. It was a Sunday evening and the hospital was practically empty which was great. They x-rayed me straight away. The Dr could not see any breaks but put me in to have more X-rays just in case! Still he could see nothing. He said that it was too swollen to tell what tissue damage I had done but 'time would tell'!!! I was not too happy to hear these words but he did give me some much needed codeine and a pair of crutches. It was great as the whole thing was free! The nurse didn't even seem that bothered that we were flying to Singapore the next day and wouldn't be bringing the crutches back. To be fair they were the most old fashioned crutches we had seen!! We took a taxi back and they were lovely at the yha. Our room was upstairs so they upgraded us to one on the ground floor with an en-suite. They also gave us access to their function room so that we could chill and watch a film there. James was amazing. He went out and got pizza and all the get well goodies . . . wine, chocolate, grapes etc!
Whilst we were sat watching the ultimate feel good 'Toy Story' we saw a girl hopping past. Surely enough when we chatted to her me her friend she had also twisted her ankle that day! She could walk on it but very slowly. They told us that they were going back to Sydney the next day so we decided to share a taxi up to the station. We met the two girls in the morning went to the station. We had a good train ride chatting away with the German girls (much to the other passengers disgust, they like their peace and quiet on trains!!). We said our good byes to them and made it to the airport by getting another train. We were there in plenty of time to check in early just in case there were any better seats for me and to ask for a wheelchair as even though I had crutches i was probably slower than a sloth!!! Success on the wheelchair front but not the seat as the plane was fully booked. James had a lot of fun pushing me through the airport in the wheelchair!!
