The flight to Sydney was fine, we were very sleepy! We managed to find our shuttle and got the lift to the yha. I didn't see much of that ride as I was fast asleep! The first thing we did was to zonk in bed for a few hours! We met a few entertaining characters up on the roof deck and ended up having a few beers with them. But we were keen to get into see the city so we hopped on the bus and got off at the harbour. It was a perfect introduction to Sydney, the sun had gone down an the lights on the bridge and the opera house were lit. It was a beautiful evening. On the way back to the YHA we got off the bus and picked out some yummy take out. Te next morning we headed to the ferries at the harbour and tool a trip to Manly. The boat trip was awesome as it took us right by the opera house and out to Manly. Manly was a cool place to see. But it was very touristy (understandably!) We sat on the beach watching the hustle and bustle go by. The ferry ride back was just as exciting made even more so because we overtook a military submarine making its way into the harbour! Next stop was the modern art gallery. James noticed that Amish Kapour had an exhibition on. We were there a little late in the day to get our money's worth for seeing his show but we did sit and watch a few of his videos which were really interesting. Especially the one about the massive piece that he made in the Kiapoura Harbour in New Zealand! We must have been so close to it when we were out there!
That evening we paid $5 to go to the BBQ on the roof of the YHA. It was a really lovely evening. We were chatting to a couple from the UK and a couple from Canada. The couple from the UK were raving about their time in Vietnam which made us very excited!
The next day we decided to head to the zoo as with our limited time in Australia we realised that we probably wouldn't get a chance to see the local wildlife. It was a really great day. We caught a ferry out there so that was great to do again. The zoo was massive and really well done. It was especially cool to see the Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies and Tasmanian Devils! We spent hours walking round and were surprised when the speakers came on to tell us it was 5pm and time to go! After the ferry ride back we went for a wander around the botanical gardens. It was so beautiful and yet again so much to see! We stopped on the way back at a cool Thai restaurant in Glebe and filled ourselves with yummy food!
