The 14th to the 18th of September was spent back in hoi'an, and like last time it was absolutely fabulous! Becky and I have established an awesome group, us two Eric and Jeremy. Day one we headed down to the back and had amazing weather just like last time I was here. We lounged in the sun and then went for more lovely seafood at man restaurant. That night we headed out and had a few drinks at the backpackers. We then headed to why not bar after Hannah recommending it (girl I worked in orphanage with). It turned out to be crap but that's where we met Eric. He looked horrendously bored with the place and i think was glad there was finally someone who spoke english to talk to! We headed to volcano and had a fairly decent night!
The next day we made plans to meet at the beach. Becky and I rented mopeds and it was hilarious. We were both shaking with nerves from the busy hoi'an roads, but it turned out grand and we made our way to the beach just fine! Later that day we went for a cruise west of hoi' an, just in time for the sunsetting. We both said mopeds are definitely the way to go! Maybe if I win the lotto I can bag myself a nice Vespa! On the way back from our cruise a school was finishing and it was petrifying. Having to wade in and out of the kids without killing one of them was one of the scariest things I've done so far! It has reassured me though that when I eventually drive back home it will seem like a gift compared to hoi'an!
Later in the week the weather took a turn for the worst. Much of Tuesday was spent inside looking out the window at the rain. We received a sever weather warning telling us that a typhoon was about to hit. The old town was entirely shut down and the national festival was cancelled. The river banks overflowed and houses where getting flooded. It was pretty intense! We all ended up making the best of a bad situation. We had a few cocktails by the pool and played a few games of cards. By 9 o'clock everyone in the hostel was gathered around the lounge and we decided to go for a swim. What better to do during a typhoon! One by one we all cannon balled into the pool and had a swim. It was pretty cool! We then got kicked out at about ten by the hotel manager who is obviously religiously opposed to the thought of people having fun. Fair enough. Shower then bed listening to the typhoon ripping apart the streets!
The following morning the typhoon had passed and it was back to the beach. We were all feeling pretty grim after being hostel bound for a few days so thank goodness the sun was out. Eric Jeremy Becky and I headed to the beach where we met Cameron from the states. Turns out he went to the same college as Eric. It's a small world! We rented a bodyboard and I headed into the sea to give it a whirl! I took to it really easy and found myself having a whale of a time. To be fair I probably looked like some sort of beached whale after washing ashore on the bodyboard! At one point though I got caught up in a wave and did a few tumbles which reiterated how dangerous the sea can be! I got out and went back to lounge with the guys. We ordered some shrimp and had nice food. It was only at around 5 that Becky pointed out what a glorious shade of red I had turned. I was beetroot! After food we headed back to sunflower hotel as our bus to Nha Trang was at 5.30. On the way back I was seriously boiling to the point where my skin was emitting heat! Not good!
We loaded our bags onto the bus and luckily Jeremy and Eric were there even though they booked through a different agency. Both the dudes are on holidays for a few weeks so they have a bigger budget than me and Becky, hence why Eric was gutted when he had to get the bus because the train was full! Haha. He popped a Xanax and fell asleep. Typical American ha ha. My sleep wasn't to bad, no being felt up by creepy Vietnamese men so it was already off to a good start! Nha trang in the morning!
