The sleeper bus was absolutely horrendous as per usual. It's not actually that bad but you get no sleep whatsoever. After being sandwiched between two Vietnamese people all night, we arrived in Ho Chi at 6.30am. I gave the taxi driver the guest house recommendation and he drove around in circles looking for it. The meter was racking up so I just gave him the equivalent of 5 dollars and told him to let us out. Pretty luckily, we ended up in the backpackers area and we found a nice guesthouse straightaway. The lady who owns it is super sweet and told us to be safe and not carry bags around the area. She also offered to take us to the Chinese market at some time during our stay so we will do that before we leave.
We checked in and lay down until 11am as we were absolutely busted. As soon as we woke we were determined to do some cultural stuff as the past few weeks seems to have been beach based! I don't mind that at all haha! We got a map and headed off for some food. We had beef and noodle pho and a large water each. We then trekked it across town and finally reached the revolutionary museum. It was pretty cool and had fighter planes outside it from the Vietnam war. Yet again Becky and I, being the historical geniuses that we are, we asking such questions as 'so who was fighting the war?' And 'who won?'. A quick google later and Wikipedia told us enough we needed to know to survive this museum! We left the revolutionary museum slightly more informed which is always good. We then stopped off for an iced coffee which was delicious!
After our pit stop we headed to the palace. We got a few photos of the lovely water fountain and then headed inside. It was a pretty impressive building laced with marble detail and old mahogany furniture. The chandlers were all made of crystal too which was mega pretty! In the middle of the palace was a huge rug that said 'please do not step on the rug', so after a few pictures of us stepping on the rug we headed to the basement section. This place was cool and was used as the bunker and telecommunication section. There was a microphone in one room so OBVIOUSLY I had to pick it up and sing a rendition of 'my heart will go on'; a throwback to karaoke tv in yangshuo! My rendition was sadly short lived after a security guard told me to be quiet because his 'ears are hurting' ha.
We then headed to the gift shop and I picked up a postcard for granny and grandad. It's a nice picture of the sunset in hoi'an and as sunsets are one of my favourite things I thought it would be nice!
Becky and I then walked back around 5. We were so happy to have been busy all day and learning things about Vietnam finally! We stopped off at a market and Becky got a new dress as she left a bag off washing sitting at the reception in sunflower hotel! Numpty! I also picked up hairdye and then we booked the chi tunnels for 8am tomorrow morning. We got back to the guesthouse at around 6am and flicked on the tv. I can't explain what luxury it is to have a tv. I think I have watched tv about 3 times since Ieft so Becky and I took the opportunity to watch three movies in a row. First was the wedding singer, then beauty and the beast and some crap movie called tower heist. We had a dinner and hair dye break and I checked my phone and saw cool news! Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds are playing New Orleans in January so I really want to try and get to that. Eric also said last week that New Orleans is his favourite place he has visited. I also like the idea of how multicultural it is and the cool music scene, so maybe I will fly there in January! Exciting times! After talking to dad and uncle lee I hit the hay for the tunnels!
