Our planned cycle to the waterfall would be more eventful than we bargained for! Firstly, we got up and had breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs and tomato, I Didnt eat the toast as I'm trying an elimination diet to see what's ballsing up my stomach. At the minute I'm convinced I'm a celiac so we will have to wait to America to figure that one out! After my toastless breakfast we headed to the main strip and rented out our bicycles which were only 10 thousand kip for the day. That is a complete bargain. I think it translates to 1 dollar or 70p. I love Asia! The initial cycle to the end of the island was about 7k. We really enjoyed it and actually discussed getting bikes when we get home so we can cycle with our dads. Beckys dad Alan is a big cyclist and dad loves cycling so it seems like a great idea! However we both agreed no going on the road, we will stick to shaws bridge!!
Once we reached the end of the island we took some photos of the view then turned back to find the waterfall. After about another 5k we reached it and it was beautiful! The sound of the waves crashing off the rocks was so loud. The place was properly preserved in its natural beauty and had none of this tourist tack lying around. I had to laugh at the 'don't climb on the rocks sign', so I obviously climbed on the rocks. Becks and I just watched the waterfall for about half an hour in awe, and it made us excited about all the waterfalls we have to look forward to; once that we can actually swim in! This one was far too powerful and too dangerous to go in. After a short while we headed to the 'beach' which is essentially a little man made patch of sand at the end of the waterfall. It was pretty neat however I have never experienced heat like it. The minute we lay down the sweat was running off us. The heat was so powerful it was dangerous, and everyone knows I love to sunbathe but even I said after half an hour it was time to go. Im pretty certain we lost the entire water content of our bodies so we both bought litre bottles of water and downed them. The cycle ride back would have been pretty rough without it!
We then left the waterfall and immediately turned left which would end up being one of the worst decisions ever! After 45 minutes of cycling we realised we should half been home 15 minutes ago, yet were surrounded by unfamiliar scenery. We asked a local if we were in the right direction to 'little Eden'. He looked confused but said yes so we went with his judgement. We cycled for another 30 minutes and then we were greeted with the jungle. I'm pretty certain we were doing everything the guidebook advised us not to do! We had cycled so far already that turning back would have been hideous so we carried on through the path in the jungle which was about the width of a fork. We were beaten by trees, bushes, had to avoid snakes and other creepy crawlies, and I even lost half a toenail to some
Rogue rock. Just when we starting to panic about the situation we were in i spotted a hut in the near distance. It was the first form of civilisation we had seen In miles so we breathed in a sigh of relief! We headed straight and eventually came to the bridge we crossed when we left this morning! Panic over :) another 30 minutes and we were home back in our lovely hotel. We covered so much ground today and got lost in a Laos jungle; a lot more than we bargained for!
After getting showered we headed to Adams bar again. I had an amazing noodle and vegetable dish and Becks had a burger. Someone suggested braveheart to watch and I was going to kick him into next week! However it showed me how you should not judge a book by its cover because it turned out to be fantastic and becky discovered her love for mel Gibson. Ha ha. Braveheart is one of chris's favourite movies so he will be pleased I've finally watched it! I also got some music stuck on my iPhone and it only cost a few dollars. I got dave and Tim at Luther college , a few paramore albums, Tom Odell and Bastille. New music for the hideous sleeper buses! Back to our amazing bed in our amazing hotel!
