New day! New country! The budding optimism I felt at 4 am slowly but surely started to disappear.. Our bus had failed to pick us up after being instructed we had to be at reception at 4am. 5:30 came and I started to realise that someone was taking the piss. I asked at reception where the bus was and the lady asked 'are you waiting to go somewhere?' And I though no we are just sitting here with all our bags for the pure craic. Luckily a tuk tuk man appeared soon after and brought us to the bus. A fiver hour ride brought us to the rest stop where things went from bad to worse. The bus broke down and we spent a merry two hours at the rest stop. I fell asleep sitting up in my chair, like the kind that happens in movies. Becky and I were absolutely busted and the journey was only half way done. Grim.
The bus man took all our passport and we paid him the 42 dollars for the Laos visa just to speed things up at immigration because we were running so late. When we got back on the bus we were thrilled to find out that the air conditioning was broke. I have never seen people sweat so much In my life. Our clothes were ringing. The heat on the bus was so bad that it was close to dangerous. It was impossible to catch a breath and the bus driver had to stop every 20 minutes so people could get outside. I think I was starved of oxygen to the brain for most of it because I started to not care! The border crossing was a gift which was a pleasant surprise and we arrived at the doc around 11 pm. The entire day was running so behind schedule that there was nobody to take across in the boat. It was just becky me and our two rucksacks. In the pitch black. At least the stars were pretty. I was so grimmed out by this day, then I picked out dads star in the sky and felt slightly better. Eventually a boat man turned up and took us across. We arrived and walked around don det looking for somewhere to stay. The only place to stay was hell on earth. We walked into the bathroom, past the spiders webs and saw that it was a hole in the floor, crawling with cockroaches. We Locked the bathroom door shut, crawled into bed under the mosquito net and rocked ourselves back and forth to sleep. We decided to check out as soon as we could! Heinous day travelling.
