Today we woke up and were excited as it was the beginning of our journey into Vietnam! I have loved china, even though it is a tad mental. Mel and I packed up and had breakfast at carpe diem again. We then hopped on a taxi to the bus station. The initial plan was to get the bus to nanning, then try and get the connecting bus that night to Vietnam. My visa doesn't actually start until the 15th so we had to make sure that we arrive at the right time. The bus was relatively pain free. You were given a free bottle of water as soon as you get on. Freebies are always nice! We drove for a couple of hours and then there was a break. People filed out and had lunch then straight back on. Another three hours later, babies crying, being kicked in the back of the head and we were there. Nanning is the a****** of china, much like ards or somewhere like that back home, however it Didnt really matter as we had planned to not be there for very long!
Wrong! The only tickets going to Vietnam were the following day which meant we had to stay over night and catch the 8am bus the next day. We grabbed our bags and headed for a local cafe to try and get wifi. After two hours of searching for a cheap place to stay we gave up and decided to walk around. Because nanning is so small and an industrial place, it doesn't lend easily to tourists. It also meant that we were famous again. Mel and I walked around for ages, sweating, in bad moods and in need of a decent bed. We ended up having to go back to the bus station and asking the tourist information woman for help. She kindly told us that there was a hotel to the left of the station. We packed up again and headed there. After an intense language barrier, we managed to get a double room for us both. It does cost us the price of a couple of nights accommodation however we were close to that station for tomorrow and we were also exhausted!
We lay in our double beds, watched some of the Chinese X factor and slept for our 7am start to Vietnam tomorrow.
