Today was less than good craic getting up. I heard my alarm go off at 8 am and got up and jumped in the shower as soon as I could otherwise it would have been a no show at the warriors! I packed up all my stuff and waited for Mel and seb to stir, but neither did. It got to 9am and Mel said 9.30 they would get up, and sure enough she did! Seb on the other hand looked comatose so we just let him sleep while we packed up our things. For how late our night was we were actually surprisingly ok! We hopped on the bus to xian railway station and then stood in a massive queue to get on the bus. 7 yuan and an hour later, we had arrived. The terracotta warrior base ground was really confusing. There were no signs telling us where to go, luckily we found it! The heat outside was INSANE. I have never felt humidity like it. Just constant sweat from start to finish. We eventually climbed our way to the army and it Didnt let me down! It was amazing looking. Each individual warrior was so carefully constructed and preserved, it was really cool! We only stayed at the army for a small bit because we were on a really on a tight schedule and had to catch our train to shanghai at 8!
After an hour bus ride home we met seb again in the hostel. He chatted to us and had some food while we got ready to leave. We headed to the bus stop and got on the most tightly packed bus in human history. Sardines! We arrived at the station and waited to get on the train. After the last journey I was positive things couldn't be any worse, and we were so happy when we saw our digs for the night! We had a little bed each, and even a seat to sit on I immediately felt better about getting trains in china, we were just very unlucky to have been caught in an earthquake on the first one! On the train a Chinese girl started chatting to us an was speaking really good English. She asked me where I was from and said Northern Ireland. Immediately she said 'wow I hear that there are people with green eyes in Ireland!!?' I said yes and showed her my eyes thinking it was pretty strange, but she was fascinated! She said 'oh my goodness they are so beautiful!'. I was chuffed! Sadly I don't remember her name, but she was travelling to shanghai only for a job interview at an airline company. She told us that the previous company had knocked her back because her teeth weren't straight enough, which she then went to get fixed! For a job!! It must be hard to get a decent job because going to that length is pretty extreme!
At ten o'clock lights were out, and now it was time to climb up three bunks to the top bunk. It was one of the funniest things I have ever experienced in my life. It was like a scene from gladiators or total wipeout. Suitcases falling on top of us, falling down a step to have to try and save ourselves before we hit the decks! I laughed my ass off. Mel thought it was hilarious too. After our late night the previous night we slept like babies! :)
