Hi all, we are currently sitting in a tiny dusty internet hole in the backstreets of delhi to send you our updates
we ended up staying in palolem for 2 weeks since it was so relaxing and we made some fab friends and met a lovely puppy called bacardi! we went on a mini adventure boat trip and saw loads of dolphins and some wild monkeys which was very exciting, but more exciting was when our boat nearly sunk by a massive wave, especially since the boat was called the titanic!
WE had another day trip out to the famous anjuna market where we did lots of haggling, deb nearly got run over by a cow but we dived out of the way of the second one just in time! we also experienced the best samosas of all man kind here!but the best part of the day was the sing a long in our little bus! (actually maybe the best part was watching the swedes dance with their fingers but anyhoo!) we also nearly ran over a huge monkey.
our last nights in palolem we had a bonfire on the beach with all our friends which was good. we were very sad to leave...
..another over night train back to mumbai, thank god we woke up when we did because it went to a total different train station in mumbai and we propably would of ended up in nepal! we roughed it again in sleeper, not as many cockroaches this time thank goodness!
we stayed at the salvo army for about 1.80 quid a night , including brekkie twas very good!we went on a very long walking trail of mumbai that day past the oval maidan, high courts and then back along the sea front where we ended up in some mens only mafia bar which didnt serve water or have toilets for women, or waiters who did any work really! we also got ambushed by about 10 small school boys asking us a million questions as we walked along the beach!
last 2 days we got to delhi and met up with amy and mim again at the lovely sunny guest house which is protected by an evil giant ginger cat who i (Dan) HATE!!! strangley enough we arrived on the coldest day of the year, only 4 degrees! it was an interesting nights sleep since our room was practically outside! deb slept with 3 tops, a sheet, a blanket and 2 sarongs, a towel a hat and a hoody and we were still bloomin freezing! not having hot water at these times makes us weep!
next day we headed off on our adventure to the taj mahal, on a coach that had resident mice! it all went smoothly till we got there when we got told as part of our ticket we would be driven around the sites by a tuk tuk. this was all ok to begin with, the guy took us to the taj mahal which we both mainly thought was an ok big white building which isnt as big as you'd thinkl. we felt like celebs cos people kept stopping us to ask to have their photo taken with us! we then went back into agra (total dump never go there!!) and had a nice little lunchwith a monkey and a dog before the evil scam began!! apparentkly our tuk tuk driver was taking us to see the 'cultural' sites, this would be 3 shops selling complete tat , cant believe we got roped into this after knowing the thai cam already but alas it happened and was actually quite amusing in the end! THEN we got dropped off at our bus, a bit early so we were waiting for the rest of the people to get back when a load of men got on and asked if we would move from the back seats cos they wanted to play cards. we did this cos they were scary and within minutes realised we were in the middle of some sort of illegal gambling ring with drug trading involved!! we hid behind our seats and emptied the valuables from our bags into our combats and even up our tops. they were actually very polite and even asked us to join in the game haha! wen the rest of the coach people arrived back they quickly scarpered!
we also got stranded in some terrible mad temple town and were told to get on a different bus to the one we had always been on cos apparently it was quicker (we were the only tourist on this entire trip) and we would avoid further temple visits since it was 10.30 at night then and we had left at 7am, we thought this was another scam but they restored our faith in humanity and got us home to the freezing cold brick bed hurrah!!
today is our last day in india, really looking forward to bangkok and being warm again! we went to gandhi scriti today which is where gandhi spent is last 144 days and the place where he was assasinated, it was really peaceful and pretty there.
we have loads of photeys which are on my facebook at the mo, we will try and get them on here soon!
next blog will be from thailand woo!
hope to hear from you all soon
dan and deb xx
