Monday mornig was an early one, even for me. We were all in the car and on our way to the airport at 4:30am. I was very proud of us. It's not easy to get four people out the door that early and we were right on time. We had a long day of traveling but everything went according to plan. No delays. Hooray.
Lesley, Ray, Eric and I were at the gate with about 30 minutes to spare. Keith and Kevin showed up about 10 minutes later. We had a layover in Orlando, which meant the plane was packed with kids going to Disney. Fortunately they were all very well behaved and we had A boarding so we got seats all together. Our second flight to San Juan was equally packed but on time. Our service from Southwest on both flights was fantastic. It definitely helped our long day feel more pleasant.
Eric stopped at Trader Joes the night before and bought us all Sushi and salads for the plane. It was the best breakfast ever. We had been up for nearly six hours so by the time we got to eat, it felt more like lunch. Paired with bloody mary's and bubbles and our vacation was off to a good start.
We all stayed at an Embassy Suites in Isla Verde our first night. We opted for a hotel close to the airport. It was very nice and only a three block walk from the beach. We checked in and headed straight down to the atrium for complimentary happy hour. The wine was good but there was noit much in the way of food.
While we were sipping wine we picked a beach-front restaurant a few blocks away. It was a beautiful night and the walk was nice after sitting all day. We had a great meal and drank Mojitos. Afterwards we walked on the beach and dipped our toes in the warm caribbean water.
Yesterday morning we parted ways with Keith and Kevin. They are staying in old town at the historic Casa Blanca. We are staying at the Caribe beach resort out on a small penninsula just outside of San Juan. We had a pretty leisurely day at the pool/beach area. The resort grounds are bautiful.
We have a two bedroom penthouse suite on the 20th floor with views of the city, Candado lagoon and the ocean. It's nice. Leslay and Ray found a beautiful Asian restaurant in a tropical garden setting for us to have dinner at. The service was a little discombobulated but the food was good and the company was great.
We had an awesome first full day of vacation!
PS. I am having difficulty uploading pictures. I will try again later.
