As you know, my flight to Bangkok was delayed by about 2 hours due to "engineering problems" that took longer to rectify than expected. Turns out these problems were hydraulic problems. Rather essential parts of an aircraft. 3 stars to Qantas for identifying the problem and fixing it.
The flight itself was nothing really out of the ordinary to be honest. We had some turbulence but nothing to leave claw marks in the arm rests or the arm of the person next to you though. Speaking of the person next to you, I had a young petite Thai woman who threw up twice during the 9 hour flight. After her first bout I went and got her some water, there wasn't much else I could do for her. Oh, I did move so she could get to the toilet so I guess I did more. Her second bout was during some turbulence towards the end of the flight. She grabbed my sick bag as she'd already used hers and proceeded to vomit. I couldn't do anything for her this time as the seatbelt sign was on and I wasn't going to offer to hold her full sick bag. Fortunately she had a water bottle to swish about in her mouth. The funny thing about this woman vomiting was how quiet she was. Not a single noise during the hurling. She grabbed her bag, stuck her head in the corner and it's as if she just opened her mouth and it all fell out. It got me thinking about how some people are noisy roarers when they have a chuck. You know the types "ROOOOAAAARRRRRR!!!!" some will cry and blubber as they hurl while this poor young woman was quiet as a mouse. How very considerate she was of her fellow passengers. Imagine having to hear a roaring vom 35000 feet up in the air
As some of you know, I'm a bit of a plane buff and I like to keep up with what's going on in the plane business so I was keen to see what all the fuss was about with the service on Qantas. It was actually much better than all the complaints you hear about in the media. They're certainly no match for some of the Asian airlines but they're no Ryan air or United Airlines. One of the female flight attendants had one of those permanent look of distress on her face though which, if you're a first time or nervous flyer, is not what you want to see. Fortunately this was countered by the uber friendly male flight attendant in the other aisle. He was always smiling and very chatty. The seats on the aircraft were fine for economy seats although the leg room was just enough for me. Any less and my knees would be in the back of the person in front. Inflight entertainment was decent. I watched Game Changer which was about the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate in the last USA election. Some of you are already yelling "BORING!" but I don't care. It was quite good and if Julianne Moore's depiction is accurate then Sarah Palin is a raving lunatic, not that we needed anymore confirmation of this "I can see Russia from my house". I started watching something else but got bored and decided to do some research on Bangkok and what I should do while I'm there. Oh, and I snuck in some Modern Family which is always great for a laugh.
So, there's a rundown of my flight to Bangkok. If you're considering flying Qantas, don't be put off by the negative commentary. They're not the greatest but they're pretty decent. I'd probably pick an Asian or middle eastern airline over them however. Just depends what's on offer. Stay tuned for my Bangkok tales. Peace out b****es!

Karen Oh bless, we will make a nurse out of you yet. You have witnessed an anorexic/bulimic in the making. They can toss their cookies so quietly only the parmesan waft and vomit breath gives the game away. Hope that is the one and only time you get that experience in a confined area. Bon viaxo my friend xx
