Week 4 and my first full week of placement has started. Sunday saw the week start off well...A FULL ROAST DINNER! It was delicious, roast chicken, stuffing, roasties and veg!!!! Can you tell by the description how much I enjoyed it! Helen & Andy own a restaurant called Real McCoys and it serves really good homemade English style food, massive portions and gorgeous! We've started going there pretty regularly for happy hour (7.30-10.00pm)! Their mojitos are to die for!!!
Anyway, that was the start to my week and today I've just returned from my placement at the kindergarten; had a great morning. I took in "Wobbly Octupus" to colour/cut out/stick shapes on and hang up. Katia the teacher thought it was a great activity and basically explained to the children that "Michelle, the teacher" had something for them to do; she then left the class and left me to it - she had to look after a little boy who was really poorly and they didnt have his parents number to call. Have to say that Teacher Michelle coped very well tho she did have to give Siwar and Erik a couple of her dirty looks which stopped them dead in their tracks!!!
They are lovely at the kindy, the teachers and the head call me into the office for drinks and munchies...today it was Inca Kola and savoury croissants! Very nice too thanks. I will take something in for us to eat next week.
Anyway, thought that on the way back I'd take some photos to put on this blog...my route to Kindy takes me down "P*SS Alley" named for obvious reasons! On the way back this afty I thought I'd take a photo of it to put on here but on arrival at said stinky alley, there were a line of men doing their business so I put the camera back in my bag, held my nose and marched up the steps!!!
So...apologies for the lack of my photos but I promise to download some soon.
Am off to Spanish School this afternoon, I'm not really speaking it much because when we go out two of the girls speak really good Spanish so they tend to do all the talking!
This weekend we're off to Chinchero, a town c. 1hr from Cusco. Helen is taking us there, she did volunteering with them a year ago and they are like her second family. We are going Saturday morning, will spend the afternoon learning to weave, we have a big meal with them Saturday night, staying over then heading to the market with them on Sunday and they are cooking us lunch. We are all really looking forward to that, as nice as Cusco is it will be lovely to get out of the city and see the countryside. It will also mean that we will miss the Census on Sunday - all the shops/restaurants will be shut.
Will write again soon, take care.
