Hi everyone from a very warm Cusco.
A rather eventful journey so sit back and I'll explain...
Flew Saturday morning and my fellow pasenger ie sat next to me turned out to be Nigel, a security guard from Gatwick Airport. We had a right giggle, we chatted virtually the whole flight. Nice guy, but there was just the one issue...he was an avid bird watcher and was coming over to Lima for a bird watching holiday! Nigel, if you're reading this I'd like to thank you for making my flight a memorable one and I'm sorry about the dig but had to get that one in! To everyone else, did you know that there are 1810 variety of birds in Peru and the one I've remembered...the helmeted pigmy tyrant!!!!!! Yes, Nigel and I played guess the bird from his very informative book! It was a scream but I dont think the Noooocastle woman next to me was very happy cos we kept larfing!
First obstacle, no taxi to meet me! After the security guy there calling the hotel it appeared that they had forgotten to book one for me! No panic...a taxi was swiftly arranged and I arrived at GRAND HOTEL BETSY, a rather un-grand venue I have to say. After a rather restless night I was up at 6am this morning and took the 0935 flight to Cusco. On arrival, was met by Daisy and onstacle No. 2...informed that Casa Elena was fully booked! I'm now going to be staying the the PoD House ie the house that the company uses. Its a really funky place and there are a group of girls there at the moment and they'll be there until November. The house is just one street from the main square and I think I'll really like it, nice to be around others and have a larf. I could have gone and stayed in a hostel, I was shown the room but it would have meant being on my own and didnt want that even if it did have a roof terrace with fab views!
Cusco is as I remember it, lively but with a real mix. We've just walked from the house to this internet place and passed a few women with their llama!
I start my Spanish lessons tomorrow morning, have to take a test first...obviously I'll fail miserably but its just for them to get an idea of how much I know...that'll be nada then! oooo there you go I've just remembered a word!
The other girls in the house are doing placements too so this week I'll be doing my Spanish lessons then going with them to one of their placements and seeing how they get on. On Thursday some of them are doing the Machu Pichu trek, think I'll acclimatise first before I do that one!
So...my adventure has started, I'm feeling rather excited and ready to dive nto living the Cusco way of life for the next few months!
No pics as havent taken any yet. They will follow.
