When we arrived in Taupo we could never have guessed how crazy the last four days would have been. It all started on our first night as we entered the hostel's beer pong tournament, the first time we had ever played the sport, and won. For winning we received a bar tab at the nightclub in town which we of course took full advantage of. The next day, as we weren't able to go on the 17km walk through the mountains featured in the Lord of the Rings films, we explored the town and ventured (after another game of mini golf and a stroll by the lake) to the natural hot springs an hour away from the town. We soaked in the 50 degree Celsius water for as long as we could before making our way back to town. Deciding a quiet night would be a good idea we entered the lounge area with no intention of having anything to drink. Unfortunately a large group of Americans were also there and being the creators of beer pong it kicked off again. Taking to the table first we won no less than 6 games in a row, beating half of America at its own game and as a result becoming known by what seemed to be half of Taupo and worshipped at our hostel as a result of our heroics. After clocking 27 pints of the local beer myself in two nights and Charlie sinking 24 himself, we were of course feeling slightly fragile the next day which we chose to use as a day to relax in town and by the huge Lake Taupo. That day did however mark a changing point in my career as I successfully completed my first clothes wash and dry. Our last day in Taupo was spent two hours away in a place called Waitomo, famous for it's black water rafting expeditions through it's famous glow worm caves. We chose to do the most challenging expedition lasting 5 hours underground which we completed successfully the abseil, zip line, tubing and climbing two waterfalls. A great experience and hard work navigating the unstable rocks and icy cold cave rivers which I've put some pictures up of us doing. The next morning we took the two hour Kiwi bus to Rotorua which is where we are now for four days.
