After hearing mixed opinions about Auckland we didn't know what to expect, but we were glad to be back in a city and in New Zealand's largest one. Our first trip was made to the harbour which was very impressive in its mass of boats small, big and huge. In the centre was a man made dome which we found out had glow in the dark table tennis inside of it, occupying us for an hour. After which we slowly made our way back to the hostel and prepared for a Saturday night in New Zealand's biggest city. The next day was probably our laziest as we recovered from the night before, typing this now I don't really remember what we did that day I think it consisted of aimlessly walking around the city before finding our beds later in the afternoon and sleeping. So the next day we had to make up for it, heading to Mission Bay, one of Auckland's beaches. With the weather perfect we knew we were in for a good day, and for a good burn. After a solid days work at the beach we headed back for the hostel and for after sun. Hearing from the bar that a poker game was going on later for a bar tab we headed down, and after a good performance, stamina got the better of us as we went all in with only one opponent left and both losing. But never mind because we returned to the bar only an hour later for another beer pong tournament in which we made it to the semi-final, admittedly we were gutted to not have won when we should have but we took it on the chin and drowned our sorrows in more of the local brew, planning the next day's activities. This was to be our most productive day as we explored around the city, making our way to the famous Harbour Bridge and going up the Skytower to get our view of the whole city, a very worthwhile exploration. Charlie's final day in New Zealand was spent, after a good send off the previous night, looking around the final part of Auckland in a supposedly "seedy" K Street and a posh Ponsonby, of which both didn't really live up to their respective names. So we went back to Mission Bay beach for one last bronzing in the perfect weather we had had during our entire stay pretty much. Reflecting on an action packed, crazy few weeks together over a shisha pipe and a couple of beers as Charlie prepared for his 30 hour flight home we decided one last trip to the bar wouldn't hurt. We managed to pull ourselves away from a packed bar after an extraordinarily savage wet t-shirt competition that I now wish no girl ever decides to take part in, probably doing well to sum up the craziness of the last three weeks together. So now we have gone our separate ways, Charlie back home as I continue through New Zealand with my next stop Coromandel. It was a brilliant three weeks that has kicked off my travelling in amazing style so cheers Charlie mate see you in 5 months!
