Nantes
Sophie and I caught a 4 hour train from Paris to Nantes, the city is pronounced "knot".
This is a very French city, not a lot of tourists here which I found really cool. We stayed at Sophies family house with her sister. Her parents were travelling Spain for a bit so us three had the house. Sophie's sister didn't speak a word of English which made conversations interesting.
The house was really cool, 4 levels high but very thin, wooden creaky vintage kind of house - I dunno how to explain houses obviously..
So I had a night in Nantes which will go down as one of the best nights I have ever had. It was sophies sisters birthday so she had invited like 6 of her close friends over for pre-drinks before they head out. It's very common with the French to do this, everyone brings a bottle or beers and places it in the middle of the table for anyone to have. I was upstairs on the computer and Sophie was saying ' are you gonna come down for a drink? They are all here'. I was thinking oh god none of these people will speak English and im going be such an outcast! But anyway I went down and sat with the group. At the start it was a little awkward they were all chatting in French and laughing and I was just keeping to myself having a drink.
They started playing a drinking game which was simple enough to play so I joined in with that, as the guys loosened up a bit from drinking they started to speak to me in English. I realised that they are not confident to speak in English, but after a few drinks to loosen them up they actually could speak ok English. By the time we went out we were all best buddies and everyone wanted to hang around with me cos I was so different, it was a bizarre but such a fun experience. When we went out all these French people were buying me drinks and were introducing me to all their friends, it was so funny, I felt like an alien.
By the end of the night the whole crew walked back to the house and we were all just singing together random songs, it was such a different experience but such good fun, will go down as a top night that's for sure.
Earlier in the week I had jumped on skyscanner which is an incredibly helpful website for finding cheap flights. I put Nante in as the depature destination and looked at what places I could get to for cheap. The cheapest one was Dublin in Ireland so I decided that would be my next stop as I could work my way around the UK before catching up with shocka and fedda in London again.
So I left sophie, very appreciative for showing me the world of France. Once I got on the bus to go to the Nantes airport at about 6pm a huge torrential rainfall/storm occurred. It was raining so hard the water was getting in the bus from the bottom of the doors, and the ground of the bus was flooded. The bus driver continued to drive through the insanity which was a great effort, I filmed a lot of it cos I couldn't believe how much rain was coming down - I feared by flight would be cancelled but headed to airport anyway.
My flight was delayed as the luggage belt to transfer bags to the planes was completely flooded but only had to wait and extra hour after all the concerns. The skies cleared and I headed to Dublin.
