¡Hola wey!
¿Como estan todos?
We're writing this update on the beach! We've had a long weekend due to Dia de Revolucion so have been able to stay here until Monday. We're at Puerto Vallarta, which is basically a real touristy resort full of Americans. It's really beautiful, and the off-season so it's not too busy. We're getting the night bus back to Guadalajara tonight so we'll probably be pretty tired tomorrow for classes - and!, I've just realised that I (this is a good example of how bad my memory is) I've just realised that I've forgotten to put sun lotion on my back for the whole day - so I'm going to be tired AND hurting tomorrow!
We've been to a few Mexican parties recently, where our students have invited us. It's really cool, and gives is a chance to practice our Spanish - and the fact that they're English students means that we always have English to fall back on which really makes me happy! A couple of weeks ago we went to a BBQ at the house of one of Sarah's students, Gerry. It's about a 30 minute drive out of town on just a big patch of land with mountains in the background - really nice. So that was a cool Mexican style BBQ. We also met Gerry's dog, who is called Barracho because at another BBQ one of Gerry's friend couldn't understand why his glass of beer kept disappearing and then he realised that the dog had been drinking it the whole night! Barracho means drunk.
In the last couple of weeks we've also celebrated Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) which is a really nice celebration where you remember family members and people who have passed away. It's celebrated by everyone, and people make alters for the deceased that includes their picture and items that they're remembered by (75% of alters maybe had tequila on them!). We went to the local cemetary and also to an exhibition of lots of different alters as there is also a competition in Jalisco for the best alters. You also eat this really yummy sugary bread on Dia de Muertos called Pan de Muertos - which is basically Dead Bread!
We went to another Chivas match, this time against Atlas. Chivas and Atlas are the two biggest teams in Guadalajara so this is the biggest match of the season, El Clasico. Chivas scored after about 10 seconds and went on to win 4-1 so our team won! It was also another chance to wear my Chivas shirt with BIMBO written across the front (their sponsor). I still can't get Sarah to buy one, which maybe isn't that big of a surprise.
I've also joined a local Sunday league football team, so I can show some English flair! But, I've only played one match so far and we lost. We actually played a team called Manchester, and they were all wearing Inter shirts which was pretty confusing. I also found it quite funny that, instead of in England where all the players shout "ref, ref!", everyone was shouting "señor, señor!".
Hope you're all well. Let us know how you're doing back home. I'm just gonna go for a swim. The waves are pretty big so it's not so much swimming but more watching out for when you're about to get battered!
Hasta luego :) x
