Hi everyone!
Apologies for the lack of updates but we've just been teaching teaching teaching!! - ok, with a bit of tequila in the middle..!
The new school semester started two weeks ago. Last semester we joined the school towards the end and were sharing one job, but we now have a whole semester in front of us, and each have a full job. We are teaching classes for adults, teenagers, and kids of various levels. It's challenging, but really good. For example, I have a beginners class for 9 kids who are aged between 6 and 11 and, yeah speak no English! I had no idea what to do for the first class, with nine kids sat down looking at me. So, yeah this was the first part of my first class...I wrote 'hello' on the board and then said it and waved to the kids, and they said it back. Then I held up a picture of two cartoon foxes saying hello to each other and all the kids shouted "COLOUR?!?" and I was like "erm, yeah ok?" and they went crazy for about the first half of the class colouring in these foxes.
Don't worry - not all my classes are like that (especially not the adult ones!). The kids can now greet each other, say numbers, and this afternoon we're learning colours so..that'll be fun.
The teaching is going well and we're really enjoying it. There are also two new teachers for this semester which is cool - Kelly from San Francisco and Lesley from Wisconsin. And we're still carrying on with out Spanish lessons this semester, and, yes Sar's still doing much better than me!.. But I think I'm getting better - ¡un poquito!
Aside from the teaching, we recently had Independance Day here in Mexico. On the night we went into Guadalajara where the President(?), or main guy in Mexico anyway, has a big speech and at the end shouts "VIVA MEXICO" over and over, as we all shout "VIVA!" back at him! There are some good photos, and there were loads of people, and fireworks. It was a big celebration.
The plan for the next few weeks is, well teaching, but also to explore some places nearby at the weekend, like Lake Chapala and Zapopan. I also really want to go to a Lucha Libre wrestling match!, which we still haven't done.
Hope you're all well. We're going to be updating this blog a lot more frequently so keep checking!
Speak soon
David and Sar xx
