I meant to say something about the Presidential Debates ("It ain't what you say, it's the way that you say it") and the enormous helpings in any restaurant (yesterday's calamari starter was far bigger than any main course serving in the UK), but space and time are against me.
So a bit about the last couple of days. Monterey - much more historical than I had expected and somewhere I liked, although Cannery Row was touristy and better left to Steinbeck's imagination. The Big Sur - as good as the hype, with 100 miles of stunning coastline. The Pacific fog - the bane of West Coast life, always threatening and sometimes a complete blanket. Carmel (a tourist town that has got it right) in brilliant sunshine while Pebble Beach, a mile to the north, was shrouded in most. And the Big Sur coastline could be foggy, while the sky is blue less than 50 yards inland. Very strange.
So just time to look around Santa Barbara tomorrow morning and then off to the airport for the jet-lagging flights home. And, I hope, just time to post a few final family photos.
For the last time - have a nice day.
