The end of our third and last day in SF brought two miracles. The first was rain (we hadn't seen any since we landed four weeks ago) and the second was an improbable 3-2 victory for the Giants in baseball, winning three games on the road in Cincinatti after two heavy defeats at home in SF.
Miracles aside, we have enjoyed three very different days here. On Day 1 brother Peter took us to a friend's house across the Bay, where we spent a very extended lunch time dissecting the world - both local and international. Yesterday we spent hiking on Angel Island, visiting the empty immigration centre for those from the Pacific Basin and the ghost town garrisons, as well enjoying lunch on a beach of our own. And those views across the water to downtown SF; forget THAT bridge, how iconic is the SF skyline. Today we mooched around the city, seeing parts into which tourists rarely stray and being overpowered by the Roman Catholic Cathedral, perhaps the most amazing building in the city yet unknown to many who live here.
We love San Francisco and will be sorry to move on; we shall be back, I have no doubt.
