I had meticulously planned the next three days in Ireland with a list of 20 things we wanted to visit/see. Today involved getting out of the city and then driving due west to the Atlantic coast, heading toward Galway and then south to our hotel in County Kerry and the town of Killarney.
So for the next few hours we drove on a nice highway through the beautiful farm land of rural Ireland, enjoying every minute of the views. Sheep, goats, rock walls, hedgerows, old ruins, all the things you imagine when you think about visiting Ireland's countryside.
It wasn't long before we encountered our first traditional Irish road...more like a cart path than a street. Very narrow, barely enough room for cars to pass and most often with stone walls along at least one side. It seemed every village had a beautiful old church or castle…or both. Incredible.
We had a great lunch in the little town of Kinvarra at the Ishka Restaurant. Memorable because I ordered a chicken pasta dish with white sauce and Lynn asked for the fish and chips. When the food came, I quickly realized she would prefer my choice. So, we traded. I now have one "get out of jail free" card in the bank.
In the early afternoon we arrived at a very special place, the Cliffs of Moher. Located on the edge of County Clare, the sea cliffs form a panoramic spectacle as they rise up to 700 feet above the ocean. An impressive example of God's glory through His creation.
As we took off for Killarney, suddenly the weather took a turn for the worse and it became very foggy and rainy. Just what I needed as I drove on the left side of the road, shifting with my left hand. Oh well…
Made it to our hotel and chilled for the evening. Enjoyed watching and listening to some traditional Irish music in the hotel pub before calling it a night.
